Menorca Island is among the islands making up the Balearic group of islands on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. It is common belief here that the coastal winds of the island play a major role in changing or modifying peoples’ personalities. If you believe in this legend, you could easily leave the island feeling quite different. It is no wonder that many tourists return here every chance that they get; some with the urge to prove whether or not the legend is true.

Menorca was referred to as the ‘minor island’ by the Romans. This factor has given it a virgin interior compared to other islands such as Mallorca. The island has lonely beaches and bays which are good for people who are seeking personal space and true relaxation.

Attractions of Menorca

Regardless of the fact that it was once considered a minor island, Menorca has a lot to offer to tourists and locals. Its white sand beaches have beautiful pine woods surrounding them, as well as parts that are beautifully rocky. The sight here is nothing short of romantic and splendid. This can be experienced in the beaches of Migjorn, and la Tramuntana coast.

The capital of Menorca is Mahon, which is a natural park that has a lake as well a charming village called Villacarlos. The village has British-influenced pieces of architecture, and the bays of Cala Llonga and Cala de Sant Esteve. The Albufera des Grau Natural Park has a lake, and different bird species numbering the hundreds.

Urbanized, quality white sand beaches of Cala d’es Rafalet, Punta Prima, and Cala Alcaufer can be found on the Southern side of Menorca in the small village of Sant Lluis. This 18th century village was founded by Frenchmen who used to reign here.

Another attraction in this island is Torret, which is a village made up of simple houses, white in color representing typical architectural styles of the island. It is fascinating to see people living in caves with only transistor radios as their contact with the world in Calas Covas. Alaior, an industrial town, produces shoes and has a historical center that is a must-visit during your tour. This area attracts tourists because of the interesting remains of history Talayot and Taula of Torraalba, as well as Torree d’en Gaumes.

These are just some of the amazing things you will find in this windy island of Spain. This country definitely has a solution for everybody and is worth visiting.
